More About Jeff
Jeff Ward is a dynamic Mi’kmaw leader, artist, and storyteller from Membertou First Nation, currently serving as the Director of Community Culture and Heritage in Wagmatcook. With a deep commitment to cultural preservation and education, Jeff combines his vast professional experience with his passion for Mi’kmaw traditions to uplift his community and share Indigenous knowledge with the world.
Over his career, Jeff has held numerous leadership roles, including General Manager of the Membertou Heritage Park and Director of the Eskasoni Crisis Centre. His work spans public speaking, cultural facilitation, and community engagement, making him a key figure in fostering cultural education and reconciliation across Mi’kma’ki and beyond. He is a member of the CMA’s reconciliation council and contributor to the CMA’s Moved to Action report. Jeff is a leader in the White Eagle Sundance, a Lodge keeper, drum keeper, conductor of ceremonies, and justice circles.
Jeff is an accomplished artist and performer, known for his beadwork, medallions, and headdresses, as well as his roles as a powwow MC, singer, and dancer. As a drum maker and conductor of ceremonies—including sweat lodges, sunrise ceremonies, and talking circles—Jeff seamlessly integrates spiritual practices with his artistic and cultural offerings.
Jeff’s acting and film production experience further highlight his versatility. He is also a writer and educator, leading workshops on topics like allyship, Mi’kmaw history, and cultural practices. His work in Indigenous tourism promotes Wagmatcook as a cultural destination while encouraging sustainable growth and collaboration with neighboring communities.
